Oct. 6 Meeting Minutes

Induction of New Members

Ron Beckham inducted Dave Wendel and Don Mook in the Rotary Club of Columbiana. Dave is Project Manager for Adolph Johnson & Son (general contractors) of Mineral Ridge, OH. Don is the new Superintendent of the Columbiana Exempted Village Schools. Both are welcomed as active members of the community.

Upcoming Visit to Charlie Harper

Carol suggested, and we agreed, that we combine next week’s meeting with a visit to Charlie Harper at the Parkside Nursing Home in Columbiana. The nursing home will let us use their conference room and will supply lunches for $5 each. They need to know numbers by Monday morning. Anyone not at this meeting that wishes to join us please call Carol Cobbs at 330-482-5509 as soon as possible.

Rose Sale

Terry reminded everyone that we needed to start thinking about the Rose Sale in November. It is our major fund raiser and the money is used for scholarships, sending high school reps to the World Affairs Conference, paying for the speech awards, achievement awards for scouts and 4H, and other similar uses. During the discussion it was mentioned that the target is the sale of 300 dozen but we’ve only been selling about 200 dozen the last couple of years. All decided that we really need all members to be active during this sale. Terry will supply the order forms and will contact Columbiana Floral. They know what we want and are prepared to handle the orders. The flower cost $13/doz for yellow and $12/doz for red. They are delivered the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

Speech Awards

Last week we passed a motion to sponsor the awards for the Columbiana Speech Tournament. Terry reported the tournament is to be Saturday, October 31st at 2 PM. He suggested that someone from the Rotary be there to present the awards and that person take the Rotary Banner to be placed on the Podium. Trish Nord requested that if we do send someone that they be there at 1:30. Cec Jones volunteered.

Awards Night Dinner

Terry also reminded us that the last meeting of October (Tuesday, 10/27) is a dinner meeting at Heck’s at 6PM. This is the evening we give awards to a Boy Scout, Girl Scout, & 4-H member.
